Membership in the Jewish Medical Student Association is open to Jewish medical students as well as students of other religious and racial backgrounds. The chief goal of JMSA is to provide a forum for medical students to socialize, interact, share and learn about Jewish traditions, culture and beliefs through the following programs and events:
Social: Throughout the year WSU-SOM students are encouraged to attend events held with our partner organizations in Metro-Detroit including Hillel of Metro Detroit, the Jewish Law Student Association of Wayne State, and our counterparts at the University of Michigan Medical School, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and Oakland University School of Medicine. Sukkot parties are held each year and are a great way to meet Jewish locals!
Volunteering: Students can participate in volunteer programs supporting Jewish life in metro-Detroit. These include Yad Ezra in Berkley, MI and events created by Hillel of Metro Detroit. See the volunteer tab for more information!
Lectures: Each year we attempt to bring in speakers from around the country to give lectures on a variety of topics relating medicine with Judaism and Jewish culture.
